It hurts the local schools as well as social networking. I've seen families forced out of rentals; so the land can be turned into tree farms. We lost the 6 grade country school due to too few students; but then got back a charter school because of local involvement in making it happen.

The other problem for the big ranches are the taxes due when the original owner dies. The kids often cannot afford to keep the ranch due to its value and a banker steps in who then hires somebody locally to run what used to be owned. It's not an easy solution for how to fix it either. When those bankers buy the big ranches, they often consolidate several and don't live on any of them. It does change things.

We ran into the upset of city people coming out here with one family that was upset when a neighbor's cattle got onto their neatly mown orchard. They finally called in the sheriff to stop that owner, who did have a rather loose attitude toward fences. City people too often come out here with the idea they can let their dogs run, which does not happen to be the law. In an area like where I live, many of these families trace their ownership back to the ancestor who came out on the Oregon Trail. But then we come along, and we are outsiders. But we were outsiders used to country living other places; so we didn't expect the changes to suit us.

I did use a lot of my own experiences for this book. One of my friends said the hero and heroine were a lot like Ranch Boss and me. Of course, I didn't run out on him right after the wedding, and he's not a rich businessman but he is the techie guy who also manages a ranch world ;)Rain Trueaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07994628226501093880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6079864127530511532.post-58821898585956454222015-08-18T08:41:05.091-07:002015-08-18T08:41:05.091-07:00I think this divide is true in that those who must...I think this divide is true in that those who must depend on their wits and others are very different than those who earn a salary and then hire someone to do the work for them. But in terms of changing the scene to meet their vision when one moves, I think that happens less often.Taborhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15257045780724471840noreply@blogger.com
